Frequently Asked Questions

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach that focuses on understanding behavior and how it is influenced by the environment. ABA uses techniques to promote positive behaviors and reduce unwanted ones. ABA is often used to teach new skills, improve communication, and help individuals with behavior challenges learn how to get their needs met in more appropriate ways.

  • With the abundance of information about raising kids that is readily available to us now, it’s hard to determine which new parenting fad will be best for your family and what to trust. Behavior analysis is different because it’s not just another fad, it’s SCIENCE! You can rest assured that this approach is based on extensive research and has proven over and over again to be effective!

Some of the strategies I suggest may be things you have unsuccessfully tried before. Don't let this discourage you! HOW and WHEN the strategies are implemented can make ALL the difference! You will learn how to correctly implement strategies so that they are successful!

  • I work with families with children of all ages and abilities. While applied behavior analysis (ABA) is used most often for children with autism to learn and develop skills and to improve and manage their behaviors, the concepts and strategies in ABA can be beneficial to ANYONE. There is an increasing number of resources and services available for children with autism and other related disorders, but I wanted to also provide assistance for the families with typically-developing children who are much less likely to seek and/or receive help.

All children need help learning how to communicate their needs and develop skills that help them become more independent. My services can help you manage common challenging behaviors that virtually all parents and caregivers deal with, and at the same time can help your child become more self-sufficient and better prepared for the world.

  • I will be available via e-mail for questions or assistance in-between sessions. Responses will be provided within 48 hours. I may be available for phone or video calls for real-time assistance during challenging behaviors, but in this case you will be charged at my hourly rate.

  • I can provide you with all of the resources and knowledge that I have, but it is up to you to implement the strategies in your home. Positive behavior change will require some hard work and consistency on your part, but rest assured that I can be there every step of the way to support you through the process in a way that works best for you and your family!

  • The number of sessions that families need varies greatly. The amount of time it takes to change a behavior can depend on many factors such as the age or ability of the child, how long they’ve been engaging in the challenging behavior, or the reasons behind why the behavior is occurring. I offer different levels of support depending on your needs and desired involvement from me.

  • I currently do not take insurance. Insurance typically does not cover BCBA services without a specific diagnosis, and it limits the flexibility of services that I can provide.
